As for the Girl of the Wheat - she is the central figure in Scottish mythology who sits in the background throughout much of Scotland's recent past. She has been much maligned on some levels - and usually mistranslated through modern Gaelic as personifying an 'old woman/ crone'. However, she is the traditional feminine figure of the sovereignty of the land - an Mhaighdean / the girl of the wheat aka the Veiled One and, ironically, an Oigbhean/ the young woman, or in more ancient times known as Dan-nu.
